In A Few Words
At Roni-Sue’s Chocolates, located in the heart of NYC, we celebrate our ingredients, crafting our own direct-trade chocolate from Belize into unique truffles, toffees and confections to delight and surprise!
Description

We make everything by hand in our Lower East Side atelier, sourcing our ingredients with care, locally where possible. We are known for unique flavor combinations (bacon treats, beer-centric candies, cocktail infused chocolates, etc) as well as our own twist on classic confections. In addition to fresh chocolates, we make buttercrunch toffees, caramel popcorns, pretzel treats, and lollipops. Ethically sourced ingredients are very important to us and we work very hard to assure that we purchase local and organic wherever we can. Our chocolate is sourced from a bean-to-bar chocolate factory in Belize which employs local people there. Because of our focus on the origins and processes behind our ingredients, Roni-Sue's Chocolates has become part of the Good Food Merchants Guild, which carefully vets all manufacturing practices and ingredients used by it's vendors. In 2013, we opened a storefront cafe in the Lower East Side, which now offers hands-on, make and take classes to the public as well as private classes for corporate team building, bachelorette parties, etc. I enjoy sharing my love of chocolate and the opportunity to teach others about the importance of sustainable, direct-trade chocolate.

Owner's Story
After making chocolates for over 25 years for friends and family, taking many classes along the way, I "went pro" and opened Roni-Sue's Chocolates in October of 2007 in a tiny stall in the historic Essex St. Market on NYC's lower east side. As I expanded the product line, I became dissatisfied with my core ingredient (chocolate) and explored more sustainable options, finally partnering with three friends to start a little bean-to-bar chocolate factory of our own in Belize. Now, we have a storefront location that sells our treats and offers classes to both interested people and larger groups for events. Recently, I collaborated with an educator friend to create a bean-to-bar-to-business STEM curriculum taught through hands-on chocolate making for students in the NYC school system. The students in our pilot program literally ate it up! It was the most popular after-school program at the middle school in Queens where we debuted it.
